Elise Martin

When asked about what the most satisfying thing is about being a veterinarian, Dr. Elise Martin says, “Giving a voice to our pets that can’t talk to us to tell us what’s wrong. I love the challenge of gathering a detailed history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests to understand why our pets are sick or in pain.”

Dr. Martin is passionate about helping animals in need and is great at determining the best prognosis for sick or injured pets based on their feedback, history, and interactions. Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Martin was set to follow in her father’s footsteps as an attorney, however, her love for animals out weighted the judicial system and she ultimately chose to follow her heart.

We were fortunate enough to have Dr. Martin join our team of veterinarians here at Southwest Veterinary Hospital in 2004. Before coming to Southwest Veterinary Hospital, Dr, Martin attended the University of California San Diego and obtained her degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience. Upon seeking her doctorate in veterinary medicine, Dr. Martin achieved her diploma from the University of California, Davis in 2004, and shortly after started working for Southwest Veterinary Hospital.

Away from the hospital, Dr. Martin loves to spend time with her husband Frank. Frank is also a veterinarian, but practices large animal medicine. They have 4 loving daughters named Ava, Sophia, Elia, and Lana. The Martins share their home with a Golden Retriever named Curry, a Yorkie Mix named Francine, and 2 Silkie Chickens. In her down time, Dr. Martin likes going running, staying in for a nice read, and playing the piano.
